German Navy Gneisenau Battleship.
GNEISENAU was a Scharnhorst-class battleship of the German Kriegsmarine, laid down in May 1935, launched in December 1936, and commissioned in May 1938. Designed to carry 38cm (15") guns, the ship entered service with 28cm (11") guns as the larger weapons were not yet available.
Alongside sister ship SCHARNHORST, GNEISENAU claimed the Royal Navy carrier GLORIOUS and destroyers ACASTA and ARDENT in June 1940.
