2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of the modern railway, when the Stockton & Darlington Railway opened on 27th September 1825 it provided the world’s first passenger carrying railway, kick starting the railway revolution and challenging how we travelled, traded and communicated. Throughout 2025, Railway 200 will celebrate this momentous bicentenary with a travelling exhibition train, community and heritage events and much more.
