US Army T58 Experimental Heavy Tank.
The T58 was developed alongside the T57 with both tanks sharing many components including the M103 heavy tank chassis. The main difference was the larger calibre 155mm gun, which was intended to provide greater firepower against heavily armoured enemy tanks. Despite its innovative design, the T58 suffered from the same problems as the T57 with the complex and unreliable oscillating turret and autoloader system.
The U.S. military shifted focus to more versatile main battle tanks (MBTs), such as the M60. T58 was ultimately cancelled in the late 1950s, and no full prototypes were completed. Like the T57, the T58 remains an interesting concept in tank history and has gained attention in military history discussions and video games.
