British Army WWI Mk IV Heavy Battle Tank 2 in 1 (Special Edition).
The early British heavy tanks of the First World War were developed from 1915 onward as a response to the stalemate of trench warfare. Designed to cross no-man’s-land under fire, break through barbed wire, and support infantry assaults against fortified positions, these vehicles featured a distinctive rhomboid shape with tracks running around the hull to traverse obstacles and were divided into “male” versions armed with cannon and machine guns and “female” versions equipped solely with machine guns. They were operated by crews of around eight men in extremely harsh internal conditions.
The Mark IV, introduced in 1917, incorporated lessons learned from earlier Marks I–III, with thicker armour and modest improvements in mechanical reliability. It became the most widespread British tank of the Great War and played a key role in the Battle of Cambrai in November 1917, where its massed, coordinated use demonstrated the growing effectiveness of armoured forces despite the vehicle’s slow speed and demanding operating conditions.
