The MiG-31BM and MiG-31BSM are modernised variants of the Soviet-designed MiG-31 Foxhound, a long-range supersonic interceptor developed to defend vast airspace against high-speed threats. Rather than new-build aircraft, both represent deep upgrade programmes applied to existing MiG-31 airframes, transforming a Cold War interceptor into a multi-role air defence platform with greatly enhanced sensors, weapons, and situational awareness.
