Soviet Navy PR 7 'Gremyashchiy' Destroyer 1942.

The Soviet destroyer GREMYASHCHIY (meaning ‘Thunderous’) was a key vessel of the Northern Fleet and one of the most active Soviet destroyers during World War II.

Classified as Project 7 (NATO Gnevny class), GREMYASHCHIY was built in Leningrad and commissioned on August 28, 1938. The destroyer had a standard displacement of approximately 1,600 tons. Powered by geared steam turbines, it could achieve speeds up to 37 knots. Its length was approximately 112.8 m. Armament was substantial, centred on four 130 mm B-13 main guns and two triple 533 mm torpedo tubes. For defence, it carried a mix of anti-aircraft weaponry, including 76.2 mm and 45 mm AA guns, 12.7 mm machine guns, and had the capacity for up to 60 mines and depth charges for anti-submarine warfare.

Wartime Service (1941–1945)
Operating in the challenging Arctic waters, GREMYASHCHIY's service was most intense during the critical Arctic convoy escort duty in 1942. The vessel was instrumental in protecting the PQ and QP convoys, which delivered vital Allied supplies (Lend-Lease) to Murmansk and Archangel. It frequently engaged with German aircraft, U-boats, and larger units of the Kriegsmarine based in Norway.

GREMYASHCHIY survived the war and continued in service into the 1960s and ultimately scrapped in 1969.
