USAAF B-25J Mitchell 'Strafer' Bomber Aircraft.
Specialised ground-attack and anti-shipping variant of the twin-engine medium bomber, introduced during the second half of World War II. To maximise low-level firepower, the traditional glass bombardier nose was replaced with a solid structure housing eight fixed .50-caliber machine guns. Supported by additional fuselage blister pods, the aircraft could direct up to 14 forward-firing machine guns at a target. This heavy armament was primarily utilised in the Pacific Theatre to neutralise airfield defences and clear the anti-aircraft decks of naval vessels prior to low-altitude bomb runs.
