Entering service in the late 1970s M747 was designed to transport heavy tracked vehicles such as tanks, bulldozers, and recovery vehicles across roads and moderate terrain. The gooseneck design distributes weight efficiently, while sixteen rear wheels provide stability and traction. Although later replaced by systems like the HET M1070 with M1000 trailer, the M747 remained in service through the Gulf War and has continued use in secondary roles. Its rugged construction and modular utility made it a backbone of armoured logistics transport for several decades.
