Branchline OO Departmental Vehicles

Departmental vehicles are used by the railway companies to support the engineering functions of the railway. Many specialist vehicles have been designed to help build and maintain the infrastructure of the railways.

Whether it’s rail-mounted machinery to help move heavy materials, crew-transport vehicles or heavy-lift cranes for use on civil engineering projects or for recovery of derailed trains, there are many interesting vehicles that are a regular sight across the rail network.

In addition to specially designed powered vehicles, a vast range of locomotives, coaches and wagons have been transferred to Departmental stock and when re-numbered and re-liveried, used to transport everything from ballast & rail section, fuel & tools, spare parts and heavy plant to wherever they are needed on the network.

Over the years, many different liveries have been employed to denote different departmental use and location. Our range of specialist Departmental vehicles reflects these changes over the years, allowing you to accurately portray this interesting area of operation no matter what era or location your layout covers.
